Our Progress to Date

Since our founding in 2022, Highmark Power has strived to become the clean energy contractor of choice for projects across Atlantic Canada. Starting in late 2021, our founder Marc MacDonald realized the need to make an impact using his electrical and project skills in a new venture.

“Highmark Power has exceptional insight into a typical solar installations as well as other applications such as EV chargers. They provide excellent customer service with detailed responses to all manner of electrical queries. I highly recommend Highmark Power!”

2022: Laying the Foundation

In early 2022, the business initially targeted the residential sector, addressing a gap in clean energy focused knowledge and skills as an electrical contractor in the market.

Our first job involved installing four Tesla Powerwall home battery systems, as part of a home backup system, followed by a number of residential solar installations contracted by solar marketing firms – however this was just the beginning!

Expanding Scope

Highmark Power started its first DC Fast Charging projects in partnership with Clear Blue Infrastructure Group with the electrical scope of work at Electrify Canada sites in New Brunswick including Woodstock, Saint John, and Grand Falls. The project continued with the network’s expansion into Nova Scotia at sites including Amherst and Bedford.

Certified best-in-class!

During 2022, our team received certification from Tesla for Powerwall and Home Charging Installations. This was the beginning of our journey toward becoming a best-in-class contractor for safety, performance, and capability.

During the same year, Highmark Power became an Efficiency Nova Scotia preferred partner and a Nova Scotia Power preferred contractor, exceeding their requirements for safety and jobsite performance.

2023: Building Momentum

Highmark Power took on larger project scopes as momentum built in 2023. The first step to scaling the team was adding new team members to grow our capabilities in electrical on-site work and health and safety oversight.

During 2023, Highmark became the electrical contractor of choice for solar installations across Atlantic Canada. We have partnered with industry leaders such as Natural Forces Solar and Solar Ascent to streamline projects and provide specialist electrical capabilities.

"We've partnered with Highmark Power on several commercial solar installations. Highmark consistently delivers on their commitments with a high degree of attention to detail and quality.

Highmark's expertise and experience has helped our company step up to the next level due to the support and guidance they provide in the planning process and beyond."

During 2023, the team expanded its capabilities with new excavation machines, enabling Highmark Power to take on larger project scopes including excavation and trenching, concrete, landscaping, pile driving, and more.

2024: Reaching New Heights

This year has already been Highmark’s most successful yet, starting with the completion of the three Electrify Canada project in New Brunswick and electrical installation scope of a microgrid at the Bayside Travel Center in Northeast Nova Scotia. Partnering with Natural Forces, the Highmark Power team has handled the electrical scope for integration of solar PV, battery storage, and DC fast charging at the site.

"SWTCH Energy is proud to partner with Highmark Power to install EV charging infrastructure including implementation of the Regional Municipality of Halifax's ambitious plans for a public charging network.

SWTCH has now deployed more than 15,000 chargers across North America with industry-leading reliability, support and uptime. We've found that Marc and the Highmark Team are a pleasure to work with - strong communicators with deep electrical engineering and installation expertise who do high quality work.

We look forward to growing our partnership in the years ahead and have no hesitation recommending them to others."

On safety, Highmark has also achieved the Certificate of Recognition (COR) from Construction Safety Nova Scotia in 2024 – demonstrating the team’s commitment to high performance systems and safety practices

In addition to COR, Highmark has also received recognition from ISNetworld -a leading global compliance platform, as a member and approved contractor.

Highmark Power Inc is also proud to announce that as of 2024 we are now an authorized installer for Krinner Groundscrews, enhancing our civil capabilities and broadening our project scopes.

This new authorization allows us to offer superior, eco-friendly foundation solutions that streamline installation process and reduce environmental impact at job sites.

Krinner groundscrews are renowned for their durability and efficiency, making them ideal for a wide range of applications, from solar panel installations to large-scale renewable energy projects. This partnership underscores Highmark Power’s commitment to providing innovative, efficient and sustainable solutions to our clients across Atlantic Canada.
